Six Greats Make Up Hall's 25th Class

 

Six sports legends make up the Mobile Sports Hall of Fame's 25 Class. The group will be inducted at a ceremony and banquet May 21 at the Battle House Hotel in Downtown Mobile.

 

The Class of 2013 includes two former NFL stars, a veteran player and current assistant coach from the NBA, 14-year big league pitcher who once won 20 games, and two local coaching legends.

Hanford Dixon – Two time All Pro and three time Pro Bowl defensive back with the Cleveland Browns. Prepped at Theodore and played collegiately at Southern Miss

Rickey Young – Eight year NFL running back with the Chargers and Vikings who once led the NFL in receptions. Was Walter Payton's backfield partner at Jackson State. A graduate of Vigor High.

Pete Myers – Current assistant coach of the Golden State Warriors. Spent a decade in the NBA with several teams including the Bulls where he replaced the retiring Michael Jordan in the starting line-up. Played at Williamson, Faulkner State, and Arkansas-Little Rock

Jon Lieber – An All-American pitcher at South Alabama before embarking on a 14-year major league career. Pitched for the Pirates, Cubs, Yankees, and Phillies and won 20-games in 2001.

Ben Harris – Won four state high school football championships at Blount High Scholl in the 1990's. Played quarterback at Toulminville High and later starred at Alabama State.

Angelo Harris – A record setting track and cross country star at the University of Alabama in the late 1960's. Coached for forty years at his high school alma mater, McGill-Toolen, producing 73 all-state performers.
